 This 'Operation Lotus ' seems to have been driven by an ideological conflict, not between Thackeray and the Sena rebels, but between Thackeray and the BJP/RSS Hindutva complex. Thackeray was definitely moving away from the obscurantist and identity-based positions of the 80s and 90s towards a more enlightened and inclusive politics. This is what RSS hates even more than it hates the minorities of India.
